At its first Google for Kenya event, Google made a bunch of Kenya-focused announcements: it has pledged Ksh 100 million (~$1 million)  to train 100,000 Kenyan smallholder farmers in digital skills through a partnership with the One Acre Fund; and launched a dedicated travel mode for motorcycles, which will provide directions and voice navigation - first of its kind in Africa. It also launched Street View with 9,500 km of beautiful imagery of Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nyeri, and Malindi - all available on Google Maps.

Liquid Telecom Kenya has appointed Adil Youssefi as its new CEO. He replaces Ben Roberts, who will become board Chairman of Liquid Telecom Kenya and concentrate on his role as the Chief Technology Officer for Liquid Telecom Group, a position he has held since 2006.Prior to joining Liquid Telecom, Youssefi was Managing Director of Airtel Kenya for the past three years.

French South African Tech Labs (FSAT Labs), based on South Africa, has opened applications for the fourth cohort of its six-month program.They are interested in startups building solutions in smart city, smart education, smart commerce, smart home and smart media. Nigeria-based fintech startup Accounteer has announced plans to set up a Nairobi office in 2019. Having raised funding from MEST, Ventures Platform, and more recently Microtraction, the startup now claims 10,000 active users in 75 countries across the world, per this Disrupt Africa report. Its biggest markets are Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Per a press release shared with us, Ingressive has announced the Tech Meets Entertainment Summit. The one day event will hold on the 25th of October, at The Zone Tech Park, Gbagada, Lagos. TMES’18 by Ingressive is sponsored by BookedByUs and GitHub, and it will convene developers, designers, founders, actors, musicians and investors to learn about tech and startups in Africa, monetizing fan bases, and collaboratively discovering new solutions for the industry.

Chinedu Valentine Okobi, younger sibling of Ebele Okobi, Facebook's Head of Policy for Africa, was shot and killed by US police in California. Ebele made the announcement via a Facebook post which was shared on Twitter by American activist Shaun King. He was unarmed and didn't commit any crime. Our condolences go to the Okobi family and we hope they find the strength to pull through in this tough time.
