AUDACITY, a multi-sensory exhibition comprising audio and visual components of the Tech Women Lagos portrait series and exhibition, will open at the Africa Fintech Foundry in Lagos from March 16, 2019. Tech Women Lagos profiles 50 women in Lagos’ technology ecosystem from different backgrounds and at different stages of their tech careers. We are showing the next generation of girls and women that careers in tech are possible and there is space for them in the industry.

Mosabi (Sierra Leone mobile learning platform for financial inclusion) and Mums Village (Kenyan parenting website)  have been selected for Gray Matters Capital‘s GMC Calibrator programme. US-based impact investor Gray Matters Capital said the two will join seven other startups from India and Vietnam in the second cohort of their edtech accelerator based in India.

Vodafone Ghana has announced that they will launch 4G network service across major cities in the country on Tuesday, 19 March 2019. The Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba, revealed at the pre-launch that the technical team of the company have been able to fast track the process for an early launch of the 4G service instead of later in the year 2019.

The Pivot East startup competition in Nairobi will return for a sixth edition in June after a three-year hiatus. Pivot East, organised by iHub, had been held annually since 2011 until it was abruptly postponed just days after selecting 25 startups from across the East African region to take part in its 2016 edition. They will also be offering participating startups entrepreneurial workshops and business advisory sessions.

The Kaduna state government in Nigeria has partnered with the World Bank, Rockefeller Foundation and Ventures Platform and other local stakeholders to launch an initiative called Click-on Kaduna to grow the digital economy in Kaduna State. The initiative includes programs designed to provide youth (aged 18-40), women, and disadvantaged groups in Kaduna State with digital skills and entrepreneurship support to leverage economic opportunities available.

Cedric Miller has been announced as the new CFO of South African innovation and engineering consulting company Altron Group. Miller will join the group on May 1st. He is currently CFO for Standard Bank’s global personal and business banking unit and has more than 27 years’ financial and accounting experience.

Nigerian biotech startup, Stack Diagnostics has gotten into Y Combinator’s Winter 2019 batch. Stack Diagnostics, through their product 54gene, provide genetic testing in Africa. At the moment, they are offering free genetic tests in Nigeria, interested persons can check here.

At a press session yesterday, Nigerian transport company, GIGM announced that they will be launching an enterprise partnership model in two weeks. The product will allow businesses to purchase their own buses that will operate as part of the GIGM fleet, and partners can manage these buses through a SaaS solution. Their aim is to “foster entrepreneurship for existing and intending business owners”.
